Department of the Russian Language and Literature
The Department was created at USPTU in 1985 to teach Russian to foreign students and is actively involved not only in teaching, but also in familiarising international students with Russian culture, history, customs and traditions.
International students can be enrolled at Bachelor’s, Specialist’s, Master’s and Candidate of Sciences programmes at Russian universities only if they have corresponding knowledge of the Russian Language:
• Level I certificate (720 academic hours of the Russian language tuition) for programs leading to the degrees of Bachelor and Specialist;
• Level II certificate (1440 academic hours of the Russian language tuition) for Master’s and Candidate of Sciences programs.
USPTU lecturers that teach the Russian language to international students have profound professional knowledge and use innovative methods of teaching. At present, more than 200 manuals of the Russian language have been developed at the Department to help international students of various academic backgrounds to build up the four skills (reading, speaking, writing and listening).
The success of a tuition process also depends on advanced training facilities, modern educational techniques, applied in the course of teaching, and a large bulk of study and reference literature (over 6 000 volumes) found at the Department. Various thematic dictionaries as well as dictionaries of special terms and idioms are of invaluable help for foreign students when they come to study their general professional disciplines and the disciplines of specialization.
Until now more than 500 foreign students got Russian language training and successfully passed their exams, which enabled them to continue education at Russian higher education institutions, as well as at USPTU Master’s, Candidate of Sciences and Doctor of Sciences programs.
Ufa State Petroleum Technological University invites international students to come to study Russian and pass the required exams.
